Casino Dene at a Glance

Whose casino it is

Casino Dene belongs to a group Alberta calls Host First Nation casinos. The name covers casinos run on First Nation reserve land, and there are six in the province. Cold Lake First Nation is the host here. The building occupies Cold Lake First Nations reserve territory, with the City of Cold Lake lying to its north.

Casino Dene started as an idea held by Cold Lake First Nations' Denesuline (Chipewyan) Tribe, who saw it as an economic development plan for the Nation. That plan became real through an agreement with AGLC (Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis). The doors first opened to the public on September 27, 2007.

Its designated licensed charity is the Dene Ts'edi Society. On the floor there are over 250 games, including slot machines and live table games.

Opening and closing times

Each day, Casino Dene's doors are open by 11 am at the latest. Sunday through Thursday, closing comes at 2 am the following morning. Friday and Saturday nights run later, until 3 am the following morning. So a Friday evening at the casino ends at 3 am Saturday.

Whether the doors open earlier than 11 am is not confirmed. The local number to call is 780-594-7900.

Table games, poker and the Aurora Bar and Lounge have no hours of their own posted by Casino Dene. No holiday schedule is posted either, so a call or a look at casinodene.com before a holiday trip is wise. The North Shore desk gives every time in local Mountain time.
