Casino Dene in brief

Casino Dene is a Host First Nation casino. That means a casino on First Nation reserve land, with a First Nation as its host. It is one of six such casinos operating in Alberta. Its host is Cold Lake First Nation. The casino first opened its doors to the public on September 27, 2007.

The Dene Ts'edi Society is the licensed charity designated for Casino Dene. The idea for the casino came from Cold Lake First Nations' Denesuline (Chipewyan) Tribe, as an economic development plan for the Nation. An agreement with AGLC (Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis) turned that plan into a working venue. More of this history appears on the Casino Dene page.

Games on the floor

Casino Dene's floor counts over 250 games, from table games to slots to VLTs. In this guide, VLT is short for video lottery terminal, an electronic gaming machine of one particular type. Slot machines at the Cold Lake casino take 1-cent, $1 and $5 denominations. On each machine, the denomination tells how much a single credit is worth.

Casino Dene runs 10 table games, and the top bet reaches $100. Among them are poker, Texas Hold'em, roulette and Chase the Flush. The casino's own list closes with "and more". Poker tournaments run each Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

The game finder beside this text gives every game the casino names under its full name. The Games page has more on each one.

Online in Alberta

On July 13, 2026, Alberta opened a regulated market for online gaming. Day-to-day management sits with the Alberta iGaming Corporation (AiGC), and AGLC acts as regulator. Two steps make an operator legal: registering with AGLC and signing an AiGC operating agreement. Readers of this guide can look up any operator in the directory AiGC keeps at abigaming.ca. Not listed there means not regulated.

AGLC runs Play Alberta, at PlayAlberta.ca, as the province's own online gaming site. Alberta sets 18 as the youngest age at which a person may legally gamble.

In this guide, paid links carry the Ad mark and appear on the home page. Each one points to a private online casino, and that casino is not Play Alberta. The North Shore desk does not say that this partner holds Alberta registration. The guide receives a commission for these links, and the casino at the other end may be replaced. The Limits and Help page explains more.
